Celebrating Freedom as Women

The month to celebrate freedom, independence, and autonomy as a nation is here, what other significance does independence hold for you? This is a time to rejoice in our own empowerment, and just as the nation’s independence has come a long way, so have that of the women of this nation. Why are independence and freedom so crucial not just for everyone in general, but especially for women?

As it turns out: empowerment and autonomy results in better overall wellbeing for women.

Mental Stressors Alleviated

According to the World Health Organization, women with insecure, low-status jobs that allow little to no decision-making authority experience higher levels of negative life events, insecure housing tenure, more chronic stressors and reduced social support, leading to a greater risk for depression.

Do you steer the wheels to your own livelihood? When a woman relies on herself for a main source of income instead of her spouse or other family members, not only can she live more flexibly, she is not subjected to the stress of possibly losing economic resources. In cases of emergency where a spouse or family member cannot continue to earn income, an independent woman is no damsel in distress, she will still be able to take care of her own wellbeing as well as those of her loved ones.

Better Chances Against Physical Illness

According to an entry from the International Women’s Health Journal, studies suggest that when age, education, and income level are factors that affect women’s autonomy, it was shown that autonomy is positively associated with reproductive health care decision-making and better health outcomes for women. When a woman is empowered with her own freedom of choice, she is less likely to sit around to wait for someone to promote her own physical health. An autonomous woman is more likely to take charge and make healthier decisions for herself.

Aside from living your best life as a free woman, got anyone in your life you’d love to be a positive influence to? Not only are autonomous women more able to look after themselves, they set an example for the youth in their lives. When you exercise independence as a woman in your daily life, you show the younger girls in your life that they have the power to take charge and make good decisions for themselves. If you have any young boys in your life, you are also able to demonstrate to them that women are equals of men who are just as capable of exercising autonomy while excelling from it.

Remember, an autonomous woman looks after her own wellness just as much as she hustles for her goals, she makes an effort herself to balance her life with hard work and self love. Come book an acupuncture, massage, or facial session with us at Road to Wellness to be the stress-free and pain-free superwoman you’re meant to be.
