Can Blue Light Really Eliminate Acne Faster?

Road To Wellness - Blue and Red Light Therapy for Acne Treatment

LED blue light therapy has been a huge fad in the skin care industry. Results varies so much that it is commonly questioned on whether or not light therapy works. Previously only available in dermatologist’s and estheticians offices, blue light for acne has become a highly sought out household treatment that’s effective, non-toxic, & non-invasive.

LED light therapy works by killing acne-causing bacteria at the source. Meffert, et. al, found that lipophilic propionibacterium acnes (often associated with acne vulgaris) contain large amounts of porphyrins which can be destructed with blue light therapy at a wavelength of 400-420nm.

Our office utilizes Celluma Pro which can emit both blue and red light to effectively treat inflammatory acne. Papageorgiou et. al, found that “…blue light and red light may act synergistically in improving acne by combining antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action, rendering phototherapy with blue and/or red light an effective and safe treatment for acne vulgaris.
